Tuscany, ItalyRocca delle Macie Tenuta Sant'Alfonso is from a 40ha single vineyard site now completely replanted in the central Classico part of the Chianti DOC. Sant'Alfonso is sangiovese grown on clay heavy soils giving the wine a richer, fuller palate mixing liquorice and wet mud scents with cherries, milk chocolate and earthy spices. Big but supple, it has persistent length in the mouth and a fine, chalky finish. A partner with aged cheeses and a variety of richer pasta dishes. Drink or hold, there is no rush here.
