Martin's Lane Simes Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

East Kelowna Slopes, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWinemaker Shane Munn takes a micro view of the vineyard, working single blocks or rows of vines employing gravity to move his grapes and wine only five times through the six-level, pump-less winery. The Simes Vineyard is a steep, north-facing site with granite-based soils located in East Kelowna. The site is not exactly a recipe for rich wine. It's all about cool-climate characteristics, as in aromatic with bright acidity and freshness. The pinot noir is a mix of two clones 943 and 667 (picked two weeks apart) aged in French oak for 17 months. The result is a bright, pure fruit pinot without any makeup. Minerally, sapid, juicy and bright, the fruit quality is outstanding. Winemaker Munn is using one bunch per shoot and removing the shoulders of that bunch to arrive at 1.8 to 2.8 tons to the acre.Tasted: 15 January 2018Tasted by: Prices:
