Martin's Lane Simes Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

East Kelowna Slopes, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaSimes is a cooler, steep, north facing vineyard in East Kelowna. Its granite-based soils sit just a few kilometres south of the 50°N mark. The northern aspect adds a rare distinction to this site that remains cool even as climate change is warming up the west coast. Three blocks within the site make up 2016; the mix of clones are 943, 667, 777, 114, 115. After a spontaneous native fermentation, with a majority of whole bunches, it is all aged in extra tight-grain French oak for 17 months. Easily the best I have seen from this site and a true harbinger of what is to come in the North Okanagan for pinot noir. Intense but graceful and packed full of flavours, the texture is ultra-silky, and the length is ridiculous. Kudos to Shane Munn, who remains highly focused on only making outstanding wine at Martin’s Lane. It rivals anything on the West Coast and much of Burgundy. Look out, world; BC pinot noir is coming to town.Tasted: 02 July 2021Tasted by: Prices:
