Fort Berens Meritage Reserve 2015

British Columbia, CanadaA step up from their standard-bearer Meritage (and differentiated by a small band on the label stating "Reserve"), this is a blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet from Okanagan and Similkameen, fermented and aged in French and American oak, with the best barrels gaining entry to this wine. After blending, the wine was bottle aged for one additional year. Full and sun-ripened, this shows the same herbal, damp forest, dark fruited DNA of their other Meritage, but with more concentration and elegance. Dark cherry, blackberry jam, tobacco is housed with slightly sticky / gummy tannins and finish with black pepper and dark chocolate. Those tannins stick out a bit on the finish of this youthful wine, and would be best met with sauced lamb shank.Tasted: 07 December 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
