Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFive years down the road, the hot 2015 vintage is beginning to show a few cracks. The ripe, pear-flavoured chardonnay with plenty of spice and creamy, baked apple fruit is beginning to age, suggesting it's time to drink. 2015 signalled a move north with 25 percent cooler Naramata fruit added to the original all-Osoyoos chardonnay recipe. The first Darryl Brooker version also came with a much appreciated leesy, mineral package using three chardonnay clones: 76, 96, and 548. There is a saving saltiness in the face of less acidity that has held off the creamy, buttery notes, but as mentioned, the wine is beginning to show its age. It’s in a good spot but don't wait to drink your bottles.Tasted: 19 September 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaIf you haven't tried Perpetua in awhile, it's time to give it another look. 2015 marked the beginning of a gradual stylistic change for Mission Hill's flagship chardonnay, with the addition of Naramata fruit for the first time. There was a conscious effort to retain freshness in what was a challenging, warm vintage. Beyond looking to cooler sites to balance the ripeness of Osoyoos fruit, winemaker Darryl Brooker also blocked malolactic fermentation and partially aged the wine in concrete. The wine has developed nicely over the last five years as a result, and is just about drinking at its peak now with golden-hued fruit, honey, and beautifully integrated oak.Tasted: 19 September 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA very warm year has yielded a ripe, pear-flavoured chardonnay with plenty of spice and creamy peach fruit. A super-hot 2015 growing season proved to be a good year to shift 25 percent cooler Naramata fruit into this formerly all-Osoyoos chardonnay. That said, it’s a fleshier version of what is normally a tightly wound white. The first Darryl Brooker version explains the much appreciated leesy, mineral Burgundian notes from three separate clones 76, 96 and 548. There is a saving saltiness in the face of less acidity this year to offset the creamy, buttery notes. Yet the creamy ripe pear fruit will be hard for most to resist, and I’m betting it will be a big hit with consumers. Ready to drink soon.Tasted: 05 July 2018Tasted by: Prices:

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA second look is as good as the first. In 2015 winemaker Darryl Brooker has slipped in 25 percent mid-valley juice from the spectacular Naramata Ranch Vineyard at the cool northern edge of the Naramata Bench adding another layer to its cool, chiseled, floral, mineral style. Most the fruit comes off three individual blocks of Dijon clones inside an eastern Osoyoos vineyard estate located right at the US border. It was a warm year but Brooker seems to have been able to reign in the heat and keep Perpetua on track. The fermentation and ageing process is now a triumvirate of French oak, concrete eggs and stainless steel that lasts about 15 months and includes hand-stirring of the lees every two weeks. A very pure expression of chardonnay with subtle pear, citrus lime and oak. Drinkable now but will age through 2020.Tasted: 01 August 2017Tasted by: Prices:
