Blue Grouse Estate Pinot Noir 2015

Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaEntirely Cowichan Valley, the 2015 Estate pinot is flushed out with 15 percent gamay grown on Blue Grouse's home estate. The fruit is picked and processed separately and aged for 18 months in barrel (16 percent new French oak; the balance in 2-3-year-old barrels) before being blended, fined, filtered and bottled. The nose is impressive, soft cherry, dark raspberry, brooding forest notes and worn wood all held snappy with bright acidity. The wine is perfectly, medium-bodied but the tannins are still a bit muddy and the finish still clipped. That said, a large improvement over last vintage, and a direction we hope the winery continues to pursue.Tasted: 22 August 2017Tasted by: Treve Ring & Anthony GismondiPrices:
