Haywire Switchback Organic Vineyard Pinot Gris 2015

Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThough pinot gris is the number one white grape planted in BC, this one is quite singular. From Haywire's home Switchback Vineyard in Summerland, farmed organically since 2011, this is 11-year-old clone 52 pinot gris, on east facing calcium carbonate-laced, gravelly soils. Pedro Parra and Alberto Antonini consult on this project, and this wine is a result of their precision agriculture. The entire site was GIS mapped, and farmed, harvested and processed in five distinct parts before being blended according to what the vintage and section of the vineyard provided. Native yeast ferment, full MLF and concrete tank aging (ten months on gross lees) aid complexity. Meadow grasses, wild flowers, sage and large flake salts texture pear skin and musk melon. Acidity is moderate (reflective of the sneaky hot 2015), slicked with honeysuckle and tinged with a piercing oxidative swing before the wash of salts lingering on the finish. In youth, this will build and knit with time.Tasted: 18 August 2017Tasted by: Prices:
