Tolaini Picconero Tenuta Montebello 2011
Castelnuovo Berardenga, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyIt's never easy to follow up a great vintage, just ask the Bordelais, but Tolaini family seems to have got the 2011 as right as possible. The blend is a 65/35 mix of merlot/cabernet franc (the latter is said to be among the very best franc grown in Italy) that is at once rich, fat and elegant thanks to a wealth of dense, fine-grained tannins and dark fruits with earthy tobacco highlights and a twist of mocha. Almost hedonistic, this is a very lavish version of this wine and will undoubtedly have wide appeal for those who like a bit of Napa Valley in their Italian reds.Tasted: 06 January 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $120.00 | 750ml | private wine shops |
