Rodney Strong Symmetry Table Red Wine 2013
Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesSymmetry is a red Meritage from Sonoma’s Alexander Valley, in this case from the very fine 2013 vintage. The blend is 76/8/8/4/4/ cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot, cabernet franc, malbec and merlot that spends 19 months in French oak barrels (45 percent new). Most of the fruit comes off the hillsides of the Alexander Valley and is fermented separately. Some six months down the road the top lots find their way to Symmetry, where they are blended and re-barreled for additional 12 to 20 months before bottling. Winemakers Greg Morthole and consulting winemaker David Ramey make this wine. Only indigenous yeast and naturally occurring malolactic fermentation are allowed. Symmetry has an enticing, almost hedonistic nose but with that Sonoma restraint. Look for a rich palate of black fruits with bits of chocolate and coffee and super, silky, dense, fine-grained tannins that almost melt in your mouth. Harmony in a glass already and it will live a decade easy. Beef, lamb, hard cheeses all work here. Well done.Tasted: 12 January 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $80.00 | 750ml | speculative listing - Mark Anthony Brands |
