Nik Weis St. Urbans-Hof Riesling Estate Bottled From Old Vines 2015

Mosel, GermanyThe original vines around the St. Urbans-Hof Estate buildings were planted by Nik Weis’s grandfather in 1949 and many have yet to replanted. The current average age is now 50+ years old. Deep roots down into the bedrock slate produce classic Mosel riesling with structure and terrific refinement. Weis has recently decided to use only the oldest parcels for his Estate Riesling and it's paying off. Add to this ambient and indigenous yeasts and the focus is now all terroir and high quality output. Expect a bright, complex mix of orchard fruits led by apricots, with ripe mango and a delicious, stony, mineral character to freshen the off-dry finish. Elegant, fresh, food-friendly - what a bargain.Tasted: 25 January 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
