Quinta do Crasto Douro Vinho Tinto Reserva Old Vines Vinhas Velhas 2013

Douro Superior, Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalFrom a field blend of 25-30 different grapes, and vines over 80 years old on schist, this Reserva was foot tread in lagares before spending 18 months in barrel (65 percent new, and 15 percent American). The old vine complexity shows with layers and layers of cassis, thorns, anise, sweet tobacco and warm spices on a warming, salted, violet finish. Tannins grip firmly, confidently, though the wood certainly is present still at this young age. Needs time in bottle to fully unknit and reveal all complexities, but even at this stage, these old vines are impressive.Tasted: 06 February 2017Tasted by: Prices:
