Quinta do Crasto Douro Vinho Tinto Reserva Old Vines Vinhas Velhas 2013

Douro Superior, Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalOld Vines is a mix of old vines – to 70 years old – and just for fun there are 25 to 30 different grape varieties in the vineyard. The ageing is done in an 85/15 mix of French and American oak for about 16 months. The nose opens with a mix of vanilla, tobacco, black liquorice and dried savoury field herbs. The palate is mix of warm, juicy black fruits with hints of raisins and some rich textured tannins yet to be dispersed. There is fine intensity here but this red needs five more years in bottle to pull it all together. The future is bright.Tasted: 19 December 2016Tasted by: Prices:
