Paul Mas Viognier 2015
Vin de Pays d'Oc, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceIf you have travelled across the south of France the nose of this wine will instantly transport you back in time. If you have yet to get there, the fragrant, fresh, floral, fruit driven aromas and flavours flecked with citrus, ginger and pineapple will inspire you to visit the French countryside for sure. What I like most about this wine is its quiet texture, one rich, fleshy and long without any of the oily, cloying characters that can make viognier tiresome, especially at this price point. This wine is a go-to white for a variety of west coast seafood dishes. It's even better suited to chicken or pork. Summer, winter, fall, spring it can handle any season. The recipe at Mas is mixing viognier fruit from cool and warm sites using young and old vines and relatively low yields at 52hl/ha.
