Quails' Gate Pinot Noir Clone 828 2014

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 828 pinot clone was planted in 2006 on the West Kelowna home property. It has been the most tannic of all the clones at Quails' Gate and while winemaker Nikki Callaway is taming the style it remains a wine that needs some bottle age to mature fully. Most years it will bolster the small batch offerings but in years like 2014 it has enough fruit to warrant a solo label. Fermented with natural winery yeasts for 26 days on skins and barrel aged in French oak barrels for 10 months, look for a much richer texture than the 2010, with fine red fruits, and earthy spice components. The most elegant version yet, but still with plenty of tannins in the back end. Pair with wild mushroom risotto, baked salmon, charcuterie or duck. Only 300 six packs were produced.Tasted: 14 October 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
