Montecariano Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2011

Verona, Veneto, ItalyMontecariano is a boutique estate in the heart of the Valpolicella classico DOC, just South of San Pietro in Cariano. The vines, some 60-years-old, are planted in what was once an old sea bed. At five years old the Classico Montecariano Amarone is just beginning to reveal its power. The attack is round and soft with rich, sweet cherry fruit, intense spice and a whiff of oxidation. Sweet leathery, dark fruit coats the palate followed by some lifted (volatile) smoky, black cherry, tobacco notes. There’s early complexity here but more will build in the bottle. Drink now through 2020. The blend is half corvina with 25/15/5/3/ corvinone, rondinella, molinara and oseleta – all air-dried and aged 4 years in barrel.Tasted: 26 October 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
