Robert Mondavi Maestro 2013

Napa Valley, California, United StatesMaestro is 100 percent Napa fruit grown on Mondavi sites at To Kalon and Wappo Hills. Winemaker Geneviève Janssens says Maestro was inspired by Robert Mondavi at the opening of the new To Kalon cellar in 2000 when he grabbed the baton from the orchestra leader playing on the lawn and became the maestro of music. It was made to be drunk early, hence merlot leads the 59/25/7/3 blend with cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot and malbec. The philosophy was whimsical, the blend serious, the result is an early-drinking St. Emilion-styled Napa Valley red blend. Intense almost piercing black cherry fruit is at the core of the blend, with a mix of brown spices and dried herbs. Round, soft and long in the mouth, it is surprisingly drinkable. Perfect with steak now but will cellar another five to seven years.Tasted: 19 September 2016Tasted by: Prices:
