Rainoldi Inferno Valtellina Superiore 2008

Valtellina, Lombardy, ItalyLight brick in hue, this chiavennasca (nebbiolo) comes from the smallest and rockiest subzone of Valtellina Superiore, stretching over a series of terraces, high in the Alps. Black cherry, rust, blood, dried cherry, medicinal herbs and dusty earth are carried along fine tannins and a stream of bright acidity, lightly textured and finishing as it started, with rust and blood. This is not about fruit, and it's a beauty for it. After stainless steel ferment, this rests twenty months in Slavonian oak before another nine months in bottle. Finishing with nebbiolo bitterness now, this understated light red is perfectly suited to wild mushroom risotto or truffle-decked pasta.Tasted: 29 September 2016Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
