Culmina Family Estate Merlot 2013

Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA solid vintage despite a cool, wet, late September but the rest of the fall was warm and dry leaving the red grapes to be picked fully ripe. Culmina’s first varietal merlot is aged 16 months in French oak barriques of which half were new. The nose is alluring with a mix of red fruits and balsamic cedar notes that spill onto the palate. Love the texture here and the weight with more red fruits with some strong underlying acidity and spice. The finish is tannic and dry at this point pointing to more time in the bottle. The oak is predominating for now and will need time to dissipate. A little less oak and a little more Golden Mile would go a long way here. Try this with grilled meats if you can’t wait.Tasted: 06 April 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
