Tedeschi Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore 2012

Pedemonte Valpolicella, Verona, Veneto, ItalyThe Maternigo property is large, but this 'cru' comes off a specific plot of dirt known as the Impervio or steeply sloped vineyard. The property is organically farmed but not certified. The mix is 40/30/30 corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella, matured for 14 months in 20/25 hl Slavonian oak casks and another six months in bottle. Look for intense aromas of redcurrants and plums flecked with peppery, orange peel, and cardamom aromas with a touch of almond. There is freshness here, with ripe fruit, big plum, cherry, anise flavours and a hint of minerality. The fine concentration here makes it the perfect foil for red meats, game, dry-textured, mature cheeses. It could easily age more than a decade in the bottle.Tasted: 09 February 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
