Vanessa Vineyard Syrah 2012
Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRipe black plum, anise, tar and cassis is marked by cracked pepper in this dense, full bodied Similkameen syrah. Thick tannins are able to support the weight, mitigated by a clear spike of acidity, though you're left with vanillin oak and excessive heat (14.5 percent declared) on a blunted finish. Vanessa Vineyard has supplied grapes to Sandhill's single vineyard wines for years, before the owners started transitioning from grape growers to vintners in 2012. A proven site, promising future, and I'm hoping the winemaking can calm a bit to let the place shine though.Tasted: 29 August 2016Tasted by: Prices:BC | $34.00 | 750ml | winery direct |
