Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRipe black plum, anise, tar and cassis is marked by cracked pepper in this dense, full bodied Similkameen syrah. Thick tannins are able to support the weight, mitigated by a clear spike of acidity, though you're left with vanillin oak and excessive heat (14.5 percent declared) on a blunted finish. Vanessa Vineyard has supplied grapes to Sandhill's single vineyard wines for years, before the owners started transitioning from grape growers to vintners in 2012. A proven site, promising future, and I'm hoping the winemaking can calm a bit to let the place shine though.Tasted: 29 August 2016Tasted by: Prices:

Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaPeppery, prune, cooked black berry, smoky, savoury, light poultry spicy nose with vanilla, coconut, coffee aromas with a bit of volatility. Round, full, dry, warm and juicy palate with big chocolate, espresso, vanilla, cedar, rooty, licorice, meaty, black berry jam, prune and resin flavours. A very oaky style currently sitting on the fruit. This needs two or three more years to better integrate.Tasted: 23 December 2015Tasted by: Prices:
