Spierhead Pinot Noir 2014
East Kelowna Slopes, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe ‘white’ label Spierhead pinot is the winery workhorse responsible for about 60 percent of the production. The wine is meant to mirror the new world house style, but much more Oregon (with an eye on Burgundy) than California. It’s barrel aged in 100 percent French oak for ten months. The attack is fresh with spicy, licorice and ripe, sweeter cherry aromas and flavours that fade into an earthy, compost, cool-climate tea and rhubarb finish. Tannins are moderate and slightly sticky, and the finish carries ample crunchy spices. Solid, youthful, fresher, pinot with excellent varietal character. Grilled salmon would be a great match. The clones in use are Dijon 115, Dijon 667 and Pommard. Perfect alcohol at 13.1 percent.Tasted: 15 December 2015Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Treve RingPrices:BC | $23.00 | 750ml | winery direct, VQA and private wine shops |
