Cave de Tain Vin de Paille Hermitage 2011

Hermitage, Northern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceStunner. This vin de paille (straw wine) is made from predominantly marsanne grapes, some over 100 years in age, and only in select years when grape health and vintage conditions permit. Grapes are air-dried in open wood crates for two months before gentle, very slow crushing of the concentrated, honeyed grapes. Expressive honey, golden raisin, toffee, dried apricot, ripe quince and marmalade aromas carry through to the very sweet, syrupy palate, one deftly reined in with an herbal, walnut shell edge and a thread of lime cordial acidity. Full and rich on the mouth, with a finish that lingers on with dried apricot and honey for minutes after the last sip.Tasted: 28 December 2015Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
