Le Volte dell' Ornellaia 2012
Tuscany, ItalyLe Volte is Bolgheri-based Ornellaia's entry level red. The Tuscan blend is a 50/30/20 mix of merlot, sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon that in 2012 ripened in a warm and mostly dry growing season. Look for rich black cherry/cassis fruit aromas flecked with earthy undertones. The palate is always suave with soft round cassis, black cherry, meaty, licorice flavours. There is fine intensity here and fruit but with that savoury Bolgheri streak from front to back. Serve now with mushrooms or meat or give it another two to three years in bottle to fully mature.
