Ravenswood Single Vineyard Barricia Zinfandel 2012

Sonoma Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesAccording to Joel Petersen, Barbara Olesen and Patricia Herron’s 36-acre Sonoma Valley Barricia Vineyard, located in the "banana belt" of Sonoma Valley protected from the fog and cool air that filters in off the Pacific and San Pablo Bay containing parts of their names is a piece of valley history. In the 1840s General Mariano Vallejo had traded it to his children’s music teacher in exchange for piano lessons. After many trials with many producers the 100-year-old vines now produce fruit for Ravenswood crafting its iconic Sonoma Valley Zinfandel. Today the site is owned by Mel and Angela Dagovitz but the name remains Barricia. The nose is zinfandel fragrant mixing baking spices with dark, sweet black fruits with a dusting of pepper. The blend is about ¾ zinfandel mixed with petite sirah and aged 19 months in French oak. On the palate it is big and black, with almost tar like textures and weight. This is one big baby with a resiny, spicy black fruit finish. Not for the timid. Think big when matching this with food it can take it.Tasted: 31 July 2015Tasted by: Prices:
