Nichol Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2012

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaI appreciate that the Nichol Vineyard reds all taste like the vineyard site even more than the grapes themselves. That is to be expected, when you're talking about a remarkable granite bedrock site on the far end of Naramata Bench, and with grapes planted in 1989, as is the case with this subtle and quietly confident cabernet franc. Wild herbs, dried and fresh black cherry and fragrant brambles on the nose. The stony, savoury palate is textured with gravels, leather, brambles, black and red cherry, dark plum, bitter cocoa and wild herbs, with fine, grippy tannins and a lick of florals and anise on the gritty finish. Tannins are lifted and fresh, and the wine is unfined and unfiltered. Youthful; pour now with thick, grilled pork chops or lay down for 3-5 years.Tasted: 17 July 2015Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
