Illuminati Riparosso Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2013

Abruzzo, ItalyA gentle nose, with medicinal herbs, a whiff of mint and subtle red currant notes. The medium bodied palate expresses more, with morello cherry compote, red and black liquorice and bittersweet cocoa dusted tannins that finish with a grip and finely rasped nutmeg. The wine is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for six months, yielding a well played balance between gentle wood and fruit. Acidity is moderate, working well to lift the montepulciano through the finish and towards a pairing with quail or chicken thighs.Tasted: 11 July 2015Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
