d'Arenberg Shiraz Grenache d'Arry's Original 2012

McLaren Vale, South Australia, AustraliaThis 50/50 grenache/syrah was named in honour of d'Arenberg principal Francis d’Arenberg Osborn, who is universally known as d’Arry. It's a fitting tribute, blending the two red grapes for which the company is best recognized. Deep, brooding dark cherry and menthol on the nose. The full, ripe palate is dominated by the same medicinal tinged cherry fruit, alongside ripe blackberry, baked plum, inky cassis, tar, black liquorice, leather and cardamom spicing. Acidity is moderate, and tannins are voluptuous, closing off a lingering finish with a powdery dark cocoa texture and flavour. Not a shy wine, pour this ripe, full bodied brooder with slow braised lamb or veal shank.Tasted: 06 July 2015Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
