Taylor Fladgate Quinta de Vargellas 2008
Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalThis is a 'single quinta' port that is made exactly as Taylor's 'vintage' but in this case the fruit is restricted to the individual Vargellas property. Its foot trodden on the estate and the result is delicious. Expect an enchanting pipe smoke, spicy, liquorice, black cherry jam nose with dried fig, tea and waxy, tobacco aromas. The attack is round and soft with plenty of smooth tannins back up by a fine structure of acidity and intense sweet black cherry fruit. The finish is long and flecked with coffee, figs and walnut flavours. Slowly maturing but there is no rush to open this bottle. Drink or hold well into the 2020s.Tasted: 13 October 2014Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $70.00 | 750ml | private wine shops |
