Les Halos de Jupiter Côtes du Rhône 2011

Côtes du Rhône, Rhone Valley, FranceThe vineyard at Les Halos is at elevation lending the fruit more finesse and balance then you might expect. The blend is 2011 is 85/10/5 grenache (described as very old) with syrah and mourvèdre. They always pick late at heightened ripeness and double sort the fruit - in the vineyard and at the winery. The grenache and mourvèdre are blended after malolactic fermentation and it's all aged in concrete to preserve the fruit. The attack is spicy with bright floral, ripe black raspberry fruit flecked with liquorice and notes of garrigue. Cambie suggests it could live 20 years in the bottle but for now grilled lamb or beef would be the just the thing to tame this rich red.
