Rasteau, Côtes du Rhône Villages, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceRasteau L'Andéol comes off a two-hectare, bowl-shaped vineyard that boasts gravel over sand and clay. It faces south turning its back on the persistent Mistral wine. In 2011 the fruit jumps from the glass s preview to its wild red fruits and pepper flavours protected from all but a touch of wood thanks to only ten percent of the mix going into foudres. The red fruit is juicy and dense with the usual glossy textures mixed with chocolate and a hint of butcher’s block. A perfect foil to any rotisserie chicken dish.Tasted: 24 April 2015Tasted by: Prices:
Rasteau, Côtes du Rhône Villages, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceHello roast chicken. That's what I thought as soon as I stuck my nose in this grenache/syrah blend from Rasteau, in the Southern Rhone. This vineyard is cradled in a south facing site, protected from the cooling Mistral wind. The grenache, dominant in this wine, is apparent on a nose of wild strawberries, garrigue and white pepper. The trio continues on the juicy palate, joined by fig, black cherry, cinnamon bark and bittersweet cocoa. Tannins are low, showing slightly sticky clay, and the palate is ripe and juicy, finishing with streaks of white pepper and a touch of heat. First sniff was right - roast chicken dinner is the match here. Tasted: 13 April 2014Tasted by: Prices:
