Gratavinum 2πR 2008

Priorato, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainIn 2003 the Cuisine family launched Gratavinum a Priorat red whose name is formed by the contraction of the village name where the winery is: Gratallops and Vinum wine in Latin. Today Gratavinum is 17 organically grown hectares. The 2008 Gratavinum 2πR is a 40/30 blend of garnatxa negre and carinyena the rest is a mix of cabernet sauvignon and syrah. Presumably, the 2πR, reference or the length of the circumference, is used to emphasize the roundness of this Priorat red. Expect intense, savoury red fruits with freshness and stony mineral flecks throughout with fine weight and round slippery tannins. Its aged 12 months in new barrels and a second year in French and Hungarian oak. Hold through 2015 and drink forever.Tasted: 27 December 2013Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
