Galena 2009

Priorato, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainDomini de la Cartoixa or the Priory's domain, was once owned by the Carthusian monks of Scala Dei Priory well known for growing vines in the Middle Ages. The entry level Galena is a selection of organically grown grapes from all 14 parcels. The wine spends a year in 80/20 French/American oak. The blend is 35/25/25/15 garnacha, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cariñena. The '09 comes from a cooler year and while it preserves its richness the tannins are slightly harder and the wine more powerful and closed in in. It's a bit wilder, or Priorat, at the moment. This will require a decade to come around in bottle.Tasted: 09 December 2013Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
