Priorato, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainDomini de la Cartoixa or the Priory's domain, was once owned by the Carthusian monks of Scala Dei Priory well known for growing vines in the Middle Ages. The entry level Galena is a selection of organically grown grapes from all 14 parcels. The wine spends a year in 80/20 French/American oak. The blend is 35/25/25/15 garnacha, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cariñena. The style is ripe and glossy with red fruits and a strong mineral stony undercurrent. Fresh, spicy, rich impressive red that needs time in the bottle or 45 minutes in the decanter. Serve with roasted meats or older hard cheese.
