Altesino Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli 2006

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyThe 2006 Montosoli is just coming into its own at seven years of age and is still many years off its peak. Montosoli is aged a full four years at the winery two of which are in large Slavonian oak barrels before spending three to four months in French barriques and then another four months in bottle. This is quite a broad shouldered red but never too big not to be considered elegant. The red fruit is dark as in Bing cherries with spicy grilled meat notes and that savoury Tuscan core of dried herbs and leather. Best with simple lamb dishes or an old piece of cheese. Altesino was the first Montalcino estate to select and bottle single vineyard cru wines in this case the famed Montosoli in 1975.Tasted: 18 October 2013Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
