Hillside Merlot Reserve 2009

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWinemaker Kathy Malone has been quietly working to refocus the Hillside portfolio on the Naramata Bench where to my mind the not too hot and not too cool vineyards seem perfectly suited to merlot. The 09 reserve is quite evolved showing a rich, fruit forward style. Plenty of spice and chocolate mixed with bits of toasted oak and rich, savoury, black cherry fruit flavours and smooth textures. Dense, weighty and drinkable now it should easily improve in the bottle over the next four years. Perfect now with grilled meats, spaghetti Bolognese or chorizo pizza.Tasted: 11 July 2013Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
