Telmo Rodriguez Lanzaga Vinedos en Lanziego 2008

Rioja, SpainIn '08 Lanzaga mixes 90 per cent tempranillo with a 7/3 split of garnacha and graciano bush vines planted between 500 and 600 meters on flat, stony, shallow soils with low fertility. The wine is fermented in cement tanks and matured 14 months in French oak foudres and new barrels. The fruit is farmed bio-dynamically, the vines are 30 to 40 years old. The nose is a meaty smoky affair with lots of black fruit and spice notes. The palate is smooth and glossy in texture with richer, black olive, cherry, stony, mineral flavours. Impressive long finish in a warm year. Telmo calls it 'strength with elegance'.Tasted: 03 May 2013Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
