Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2011
Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalTouriga Nacional makes up 40% of Vesuvio (freshness)and is mixed with Touriga Franca 45% (floral and silk), Tinta Barroca (10%) and Tinta Amarela (5%). All grapes are foot-trodden. Dark purple colour. Black tea, liquorice root, resin, spicy, raisin, black cherry jam, earthy, tobacco aromas with a light floral, kirsch note. Rich, full, round, somewhat fatter and sweeter style but very good acidity with a big tannic structure. Intense black liquorice, black pepper, savoury, tobacco, orange peel, black tea flavours with a fiery finish. A big, bold offering here that will require decades of aging. Fabulous. 3,750 bottles.
