Domaine de Beaurenard Boisrenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2004

Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceMade from 60-80 year old vines it is unfiltered and aged in wood about 18 months. The mix is 70% grenache, rest equal syrah, mourvèdre less 10 per cent cinsault and the rest of the 13 grapes grown in the appellation. The 2004 is surprisingly clean on the nose with the typical spicy red fruit notes with some tertiary five-spice, earth and mineral notes creeping in. The mid-palate is dry and firm with smoky red liquorice fruit flavours that preview a long finesse filled finish. Nearing its zenith this one will peak over the next five years.Tasted: 20 January 2013Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
