Champagne Dom Pérignon 2003
Champagne, FranceAs warm and dry as 2003 was in Europe winemaker Richard Geoffrey decided to declare a Dom Pérignon vintage in 2003. It has turned out to be a very big champagne with more power and minerality than finesse and acidity at least at this point but it should still have wide appeal for most Dom drinkers. There are more candied fruits than red this year and there is a lot more pinot noir in the mix and spice. Baked apple, pear skin, buttered almond, citrus rind, toasty, garlic flavours. Very intense and rich style with ripe fruit characters but also quite strong lees autolysis. There is freshness and minerality but Geoffrey insists the 2003 will be remembered by its intensity. Drink now with the classic foie gras or caviar match or hold for another five years.Tasted: 30 December 2012Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $213.00 | 750ml | specialty listing |
