John Duval Eligo 2008
Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaEligo '08 is made from a selection of vineyards in Eden and Barossa Valley. The fruit is barrel aged in 80 percent new French oak which adds a level of sophistication to what could be a rambunctious red. Winemaker John Duval a former Penfolds chief winemaker who was responsible for the Oz icon red Grange says Eligo is the pinnacle of his production. It is 100 percent shiraz that is made in a restrained manner. In 2008 it appears less opulent and grainier in texture with some pronounced acidity than the 2006 (there was no 2007 made). In short less hedonistic which should attract a crowd of its own.Tasted: 20 September 2011Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $110.00 | 750ml | speculative listing - Vintage West Marketing |
