John Duval Eligo 2006

Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaEligo is a vineyard selection, one in Eden Valley and two from Barossa Valley, and few are better versed at that process than winemaker John Duval a former Penfolds chief winemaker who was responsible for the Oz icon red Grange. Eligo is the pinnacle at John Duval and it gets a full strapping of 2/3 new French oak. In 2006 it has the structure and the opulence to turn heads at any tasting but it's the elegance of this wine that surprises. So rich and plump it is a delight to drink now but that savoury, red fruit will keep for a decade. A new Australia? Decant for 30 minutes for best effect and serve it with the likes of lamb or beef.Tasted: 20 September 2011Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
