De Martino Gran Familia Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Isla de Maipo, Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileThe current release opens with a big bay leaf, savoury, minty, sappy, cassis nose with chocolate, rooty, leather, tobacco leaf aromas. Round, dry, full palate but slightly less fruit concentration yet structured with some dry, grainy tannins. Cassis, coffee, peppery, rooty, tobacco, black olive, menthol, mineral, liquorice flavours. Good solid cabernet character but a bit less intensity and balance than prior vintages. Again, needs time to soften the harder tannins. The grapes come from a 40-year-old section of vineyard in Isla de Maipo.Tasted: 31 December 2009Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
