Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalThe explosive heat of the summer of 2003 wreaked havoc across Europe. Even in the Douro, where super-warm summers are a way of life, the grapes struggled under the heat and lack of water. Most came to the lagares heavily shriveled, yet the folks at Taylor manage to make the best of a difficult task capturing powerful fruit flavours and holding its big tannins in check. It’s a sweet vintage that’s licorice laced, with pruney, brown sugar, spice and molasses. Long and persistent, it's losing some of its plump, youthful fruit under notes of chocolates and raisins. You can drink this now but I’m sure it will easily live 50 years.Tasted: 28 March 2018Tasted by: Prices:

Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalWe love the way Taylor is put together. Always so solid with powerful dense fruit, flecked with floral (violet) notes. The color is opaque with a licorice laced, black fruit flavours, brown sugar, spice and molasses. Interminably long in the mouth showing off a youthful finish packed full of plums chocolates and raisins. It seems to linger on the palate forever in perfect balance. Lock and load this into the cellar for the next century.Tasted: 17 August 2008Tasted by: Prices:
