Frescobaldi Montesodi Castello di Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva 1985

Tuscany, ItalyThis was the first vintage, a great year, where barriques were used as well as traditional ovals. Good cherry colour with some brick. Smoky, tobacco, soy, peppery nose with meaty, black cherry, floral, game and cedar/licorice notes. Rich, round, very good concentration and flavour intensity with some light tannins. Lots of black cherry, plum, coffee, tobacco, peppery, tea, licorice, ash and mineral flavours with a hint of vanilla and orange peel. Warm, well balanced and mature but may improve or hold for several years. Great drinking now with complexity. Tasted: 14 November 2007Tasted by: Stuart TobePrices:
