Agrelo District, Luján de Cuyo, Northern Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaAurelio Montes has put the magic back into malbec but he had to go to Argentina to do it. His first vintage of Kaiken Ultra, named after the wild goose that flies back and forth over the Andes between Chile and Argentina is a winner. The inaugural premium Malbec is a blend of fruit from Uco, Tupungato, Tunuyan and Consulta. Plenty of new oak soaks up the chocolate coffee and red fruit flavours. It is less fruity than the Chilean labels but their is more structure and coffee chocolate notes. This should turn some heads.Tasted: 30 August 2006Tasted by: Prices:

Agrelo District, Luján de Cuyo, Northern Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaGamey, meaty, graphite nose with iron, tobacco, rootsy, black cherry jam, olive, peppery, floral aromas. Fat, round, intense and supple but with grippy tannins. Big black cherry, black berry, peppery, spicy, licorice root flavours with a coffee and mushroom finish. A bit warm and rustic but lots of intensity. Needs 3-4 years to settle down but will be fine.Tasted: 30 August 2006Tasted by: Prices:
