Carmen Wine Maker's Reserve 2001

Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileHot, slightly prickly nose with big black olive, menthol, resiny, cassis jam, white pepper and saddle leather. The blend, now less hedonistic and more structured, was put together by the newly arrived winemaker Pilar Gonzalez. Rich, round, ripe tannins and big cassis jam, spicy, minty flavours spiked with licorice, vanilla and cigar. The finish is a mix of cedar, meat, and chocolate coffee. A bit warm but otherwise balanced. Needs 2-4 years to soften out for the somewhat Bordelais style.Tasted: 10 March 2006Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
