Domaine Bouchard Père & Fils Beaune Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus 1er Cru 2003

Beaune, Côte de Beaune, Côte d'Or, Burgundy, FranceFrom the cellar. The signature wine from Bouchard Pere et Fils, Beaune Greves Vigne de L’Enfant Jésus is a plot in the centre of the very large Beaune Greves vineyard, considered to be the heart, or best, of the site. From the big, hot 2003, this is showing its age (and beyond). The once fat, now fine, palate is filled with iodine, dried cherry, forest soils, worn leather, dried leaves. There's a strike of VA and a raft of grippy tannins that keep squeezing to salted dryness at the finish. This may be past its prime, but it is still drinkable with a gentle, herbed protein like pork tenderloin or roast turkey. The name Vigne de L’Enfants Jésus presumably dates back to 1638 when Anne of Austria gave birth to King Louis XIV. To celebrate, the Camelite order named its most prominent Beaune vineyard after the baby. The vineyard was under the ownership of the Carmelite order until the French revolution. It has been owned by the Bouchard family for the paste 100 years.Tasted: 19 March 2018Tasted by: Prices:
