Montes Limited Selection Sauvignon Blanc Leyda 2004

Valle de Leyda, Valle de San Antonio, Region de Aconcagua, ChileLeyda is an emerging cool-climate region along Chile's coast just to the south of Casablanca. It's also home to a very exciting new sauvignon blanc from Aurelio Montes. The '04 Limited Selection Leyda sauvignon smells a bit like New Zealand and tastes a bit like Sancerre. Described as the only vineyard in Chile where you can taste wines and watch the sunset into the Pacific this is super fresh, very hip sauvignon. There is no oak and the crisp fruit sports flecks of dill, gooseberry chalky mineral stony flavours. With over 200 days of hang-time the fruit has intensity but without any aggressive edges. Bravo.
