Marcarini Barolo La Serra 2000
La Morra, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyLa Serra makes up one side of Marcarini Barolo: a historical vineyard covering 3.1 hectares (7.6 acres), less forward, albeit contiguous to, Brunate, on the same hillside, with identical south/southwestern exposure. The grapes take a little longer to ripen on the vines; the later harvest, together with a cooler, windier microclimate, are conducive to a softer, rounder Barolo, with greater finesse. Look for rose petal, tar, walnut, peppery gamey tobacco notes with clove and vanilla highlights. Dry, tight and lean with coffee, tar, cherry, licorice, marzipan flavours and a tobacco, toffee rose finish. Elegant but very lean finish and dry tannins, will need years to mature.Tasted: 04 March 2004Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $84.95 | 750ml | Speculative - Empson (Canada) Inc. |
